Was fortunate enough to draw a tag this year for a premium zone here in cali. If anyone has any tips on this zone that would be great, but I'm primarily just looking for some general muley hunting tips. I've done a bit of blacktail hunting but I'm a rookie at muleys. The terrain varies from some pretty thick forests, to mountains that are almost all sage with some rock ledges and very very few trees. There are also some areas with an even mix of sage and trees. Based on what I have read the sage mountains may be the best place to look for a big buck? It just is foreign terrain to me, with blacktails I have always hunted in areas with lots of trees. Any pointers on the type of terrain I should focus on would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Congrats on drawing one of the best X zones in the state! Get yourself a good spotting scope and get on as many high points as you can to glass a lot of country. The great part of hunting more open country is you can see almost everything if you are calm and look at every nook and cranny. Take your time spend many days glassing most big bucks are taken from this zone late in the season, when the weather gets them moving and consontrated. Have fun with that great tag, and post a pic of the beautiful buck you bag.
