So for the suckers like me who didn't draw - what can I do? I know every year theres plenty of left over northern tags for mule deer here in utah - is there anything like that with elk? I would prefer rifle but would do an archery hunt too.. What can I do?? I don't know much about elk tags or areas here in utah but I drew the youth tag 2 years ago and had a heck of a time!! Ever since i've been DYING to go out elk hunting again but I think I have to draw a tag. I would like to get a 4 point bull or better, do they sell any bull tags over the counter or can you only get spike tags? Also, what regions or areas can you usually get a elk tag for after the draws? Thanks a ton guys for your help!! I hope I can get after em this year!!

hound_hunter, If you are willing to come over to Colorado, we have unlimited bow tags for elk, that covers most of the state. Idaho has a lot of tags left too.

hound_hunter,

Utah has both open bull and spike only tags that they just sell over the counter. you just have to choose which type of tag that you want. There is no draw for these tags it's a first come fist served basis. The only two places that I know are open bull right off the top of my head are the Uintahs and down on the Henry Mountins. I'm sure that there are more I just don't know where they are. These tags go on sale In the middle of June and can be bought online or at all the usual places that they sell hunting tags.

Make sure that you are prompt with getting you tags. The archery season is gettin popular enough that all of the tags are being bought up before the hunt even starts. This has just started happening in the last couple of years unlike years past when they had tags through the entire season.

Yes they have smoker tags for elk that they sell over the counter also. They are like the rifle tags where you have to choose between open bull or spike only. The only other smoker tag that you will be able to get over the counter is a deer tag for either northern of if you get to where the tags are being sold at a very early hour and are lucky they have like a hundred northeastern tags left that will go on sale. All of these tags go on sale on June 15th on a first come first served basis.

Good Luck
