If I'm buying a 1/2 ton most likely an F-150, if I buying a diesel Dodge and Cummins gets my vote, for a mini truck you can't beat a Tacoma!

chevy all the way!!!

That kind of depends on what you are doing. They all have their positives and negitives. I personaly love my Tacoma, but I am not in a postion that I need to haul anything heavy. That being said I bet it is not to long and Toyota had a full size (biger than the Tundra) to compete with the big 3. And when that happens that is going to be the truck I want.

Yes I voted for Toyota.

Be prepared to buy a Toyota then, because they just upgraded the Tundra and the engine has just slightly more horsepower and more torque than the big Dodge Hemi, with a little better gas mileage than the old smaller engine got. I believe it may be the most powerful truck out there now, or very very close. I personally wouldn't own anything but a Toyota, and perhaps a Nissan Titan, but normally I have found that Nissan's just are not the Truck the Toyotas are. I have owned a lot of them, and they are awfully reliable!

I drove Chevy trucks for over twenty years and now drive a Ford super crew and am very happy with it. I really enjoyed my chevys too......Bottom line is if it is a crew cab four wheel drive by any of these makers I think I would like it. Not brand loyal anymore.

Grew up with Ford's, and have never had a reason to switch. If I am worried about mileage, I'll buy a Prius. :-k If I want a truck that gets me where I want to go, and look dang good getting there, I'll stay with my Ford.

My best friend bought the four door short box Tundra that just came out. That truck is unreal. I love the new Tundras. I think that as soon as they decide to put out a full four door with the long bed, I might have to trade in my Titan. Talk about power, that Tundra has it. Looks great too! He put a three inch lift and some BFG AT/KOs on it and that thing is amazing. He is a little ginger driving it off-road, but that will change once he gets a couple dings and scratches!

GO TOYOTA! ( I also have owned a few toyota trucks and currently drive an 07 FJ Cruiser) and Toyota's reliability is unmatched (IMO).

I would never get anything but a GM made vehichle. Chevy is just as reliable as is Made in America. Chevy also has a lot better guts than Ford or Dodge. GM made a simplistic motor that outdose Ford or Dodge. I have known a mechanic all my life who has worked on ever type of vehicle. Chevy(GM) simplified things while Ford, Dodge, and especially Toyota just made sure everything would fit. There is a reason GM has been the #1 automobile manufacture in the world for so long. Because they make reliable, long lasting, tough trucks that just don't quit half way threw there life. Dodge-for a truck that looks big and bad once you get in one and drive it you find out there is nothing there, Ford and Chevy have twice the power of any Dodge. I know some people who have gravel in there drive way and to get the big 2500 Dodge Ram out, it has to be put in 4WD, whereas the Chevy they sold that was 10 years older and only a 2500 itself could pull out without loosing grip at all. Ford- they just aren't reliable, they aren't that tough, thats all that needs to be said Ford sucks. Toyota, well no matter how much they try they just can't get as powerful as the big three, wow those new Tundras are some ugly trucks. Look on http://www.kbb.com GM (Chevy) trucks any year if you put in the same information for another truck choice and compare prices Chevy's and GMC's are always higher booked than the others, because they hold ther value.

Well let me explain with this:

Toyota will hold its value better than any GM product (IMO). Toyota's are well known to be the best at maintaining their resale value.

'Bout time you came around!

Let's see, of all the vehicles I've bought from a dealer new, and there's been a few, the only ones I still own are all Chevys. Still own the '90 C1500 with close to 300K on the odometer. Absolutely love my Blazer ZR2 for offroad and hunting. Hard to beat my wife's Camaro SS, unless it's a Vette. As for an economy car, an '06 Monte Carlo getting 31 MPG.

So guess I'll have to vote Chevy/GMC all the way! I'll be looking to get a 2500HD 4X4 with the Duramax sometime later in the year. I won't even look at the others, there's no reason to.

Okay here you go:

Chevy S10 Series

Chevy S10 are durable hard working truck, I have one myself. They travel the mountains easily on trails I would normally only take a 4Wheeler or Jeep on. The only disadvantage to these trucks are for a good ride they made the front end be durable and it moves in order to try to even the truck(Blazer) out if you hit a rock or are on a slant this wears out the ball joints after about 140,000-150,000 miles but the truck lasts for over 200,000 easy. Ford Ranger, Toyota, and Dodge Dakota don't compare.

The sad truth

A Japanese company (Toyota) and an American company (General Motors) decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.

On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.

The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action.

Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 8 people steering and 1 person rowing.

Feeling a deeper study was in order; American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion.

They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.

Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.

They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings, dinners and free pens for the rower. There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses.

The next year the Japanese won by two miles.

Humiliated, the American management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the senior executives as bonuses and the next year's racing team was outsourced to India.

Sadly, The End.

Here's something else to think about

Ford has spent the last 30 years moving all its factories out of the US, claiming they can't make money paying American wages.

TOYOTA has spent the last 30 years building more than a dozen plants inside the US.

The last quarter's results:

TOYOTA makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses.

Ford folks are still scratching their heads.

IF THIS WEREN'T SO TRUE IT MIGHT BE FUNNY.

Eventually it will be between General Motors(GM) and Toyota. It's all going to be where your loyalty is to American made, or Japanese made. Eventually one of the big 3 are going down and it will probably be the bottom of the big 3 (Ford).

Anyway, Chevrolet: An American revolution.

I aint posted here in a while but had to on this, ok here goes the lowdown on yota(i voted for em)
I work for michael waltrip racing, YOTA"S profit made in the US goes back to the US, YOTA has just as many plants in AMERICA as CHEVY<DODGE<OR FORD, YOTA"S sold in AMERICA are made in AMERICA, parts and all, they have a plant in NC in ROWAN COUNTY, fords are made in MEXICO, with parts made in CANADA, and chevy and dodge both have parts that are made in CANADA, also YOTA CAME OUT WITH A DIESEL THAT WILL PULL ANY CHEVY IN HALF, well just my $.02

Some of you guys crack me up, calling a Toyota a girls truck? That's an opinion based on ignorance. Last September in Colorado I pulled out a full sized Chevy 4x4 that had a pull up type camper hooked up behind it, and we had 2 cut up elk in the back. I pull a 21' Procraft bass boat just as easy with my "girls" truck as I do with my big macho lifted 4x4 Silverado, and the full mileage is about 25% better. I will concede that the Vortec motor is a great motor, I love it, but the 4 door 4x4 Toyota trucks are damn nice. :-k

I'll agree that Toyota does make a high quality product, no doubt about that. But I believe most "truck" drivers tend to be brand loyal and it really takes something bad to happen for them to change over to another vendor.

I didn't know that Toyota has come out with a diesel in their trucks. I'll have to look that up and see what their numbers are. What are they putting it in? I've heard they are working on putting out a three quarter ton but haven't seen much as of yet. I do know that they've been making diesels for tractors and such.

also YOTA CAME OUT WITH A DIESEL THAT WILL PULL ANY CHEVY IN HALF,
Trust me not if the Chevy pulls back. I have a 1995 Chevy half ton, Chevy S10, and a Toyota 1994. The Toyota dose less in 4WD than the S10 dose in 2WD. Whenever something needs to be hauled or pulled trust me I don't think twice about it being the S10. The S10 has 130,000 miles, Half Ton 134,000 miles, and the Toyota 98,000 miles the only thing that I have ever had to replace on the S10 was ball joints, the Silverado, well nothing at all (original owner). The Toyota has had plenty replaced and just isn't that great, yes its better on gas and thats why its kept around, but the Chevy's beat any other truck in reliability, long-lasting, and toughness. Toyota will never compare to Chevy (GM'S) V-6 or V-8 or any other motor for that matter they were made to last and be hold true and tough and that is exactly what they do.

You give me a choice between: A tundra, Chevy S10, Tacoma. It would be the S10 every time, because even Chevy's second hand truck beats Toyotas first hand truck.

Bottom line the Chevrolet Silverado will never be beat. It is the toughest truck out there and past experiences of seeing the guts of all types of trucks hold true. Chevy dosen't experiment they don't put things in that are just a "hope so" they put things and put together there vehicles the best they don't mess around and they build trucks stronger than any others out there.

The Silverado has been around for a very long time, and in that time it's name has never changed, that's because it's background stands true it is the toughest truck and it has always been the Sivlerado because that name has never got a bad background.

For 89 years this is our truck:

#1deer, what is the torque on your chevy , the diesel that yota came out with has about 700ft/lbs of torque stock w/ 300hp, you can do MINOR improvements on it that will NOT void the warranty that will up it to 500hp, and 990ft/lbs of torque, now its given they are ugly as all get out(at least the tundras) but i'm get'n a 07 double cab tacoma

Ive seen em all and Ill stick with my ford Ive had three now the first one had 200000 miles before I traded it in 'ford ranger' . then I had a 96 ford bronco most reliable tough truck I ever seen I was not good to that truck it had almost 300000 miles until my girlfriend wrecked it trying to miss a deer :>/ and it still ran after that just was all messed up that was by far the hardest working truck I ever seen ! now I have another 96 bronco ,there great off road and can take a heck of a beating the only thing I dont like about this truck is it dont have a bed. yes ford has had issues with there 6.0 diesel but the new 6.4 is a lot better. They all have there advantages and they all have there problems , if I had to choose a truck I would deffinetly take the new F150 those trucks are tough and reliable and great looking if I wanted a 4wd for mileage I would take a tacoma, never have like Dodge much seems like the only thing going for them is the cummins, thats a good motor !

MTredneck, I sure would like to know where you came up with these numbers. I did a little research and as of right now there is not a diesel option in the United States on any Toyota trucks. Toyota did come out and say they are looking at developing a diesel engine with Hino, a company that makes large diesel engines in Asia. The Tundra will be the truck to get the diesel if they do develop one, possibly in '09. Currently, the only engine options for Toyota trucks are the 4.0L V6 (236hp/266lb-ft), the 4.7L V8 (276hp/313lb-ft) and the 5.7L V8 (381hp/401lb-ft).

#1Deer 1-I, the name "Silverado" has not been the name of a 1/2 ton Chevy truck for very long. C10, C1500 and other designations are how the 1/2 ton was designated for years (substitute K for C for 4X4). The name "Siverado" used to be the "luxury" edition of the 1/2 ton back from 1975 until 1999. GMC pretty much did the exact same thing with the Sierra nameplate.

I see, so its not a production engine as of yet. That would be a heck of an engine providing Toyota does develop it, though it would be pretty much of a waste in a 1/2 ton truck, IMHO. The only reason I can see for getting a diesel is for towing a lot of weight and as far as I know the most any 1/2 ton truck is rated at is in the 10,000 to 12,000 lb area. The current gas engines can handle that right now with no problems.
