Christmas Tree Cutting 2009. How many of you do it yourself?

Hey guys and gals. I thought you would enjoy some pics of me and the boys cutting our Christmas tree this year. We headed to the Blue Mountains here in SE WA lookin' for that special tree and had a blast playing in the snow too.

How many of you cut your own tree this time of year? If ya got some pics feel free to post them here.

I cut my own every year when we were in nor-cal, but I feel bad cutting down what few trees we have here in Utah, so I bought my first tree last year, bugged me, but the kids loved it.----shooter

Great post. I grew up in Florida and when I came to Nevada I couldn't wait to play in the mountains and the snow, and to cut down a Christmas tree was totally foreign. I started cutting down my owne trees somewhere around 1999 or 2000 and did it with my girlfriend and her daughter. Later I became single but loved the Christmas tree thing so much that I went by myself. Well not quite by myself, I took the horses and my dog. My wifes family ownes "The Watering Hole" a bar in Spring Creek, Nevada. We invited lots of people to go with us and its turned into quite a crowd. We have one heck of a Bar-B-Qing, bon fire, ATV'ing, sledding and refreshment tail gate party. Unfortunately I did not take any pictures of our last tree cutting but will be going this Saturday the 5th of December and I plan on taking lots of pictures. I will be sure to post them up. fatrooster.

heck ya! it's the only way :) any major tree hunter knows the "doweling trick " sp??
face it, you can look and look and it's hard to fing "the one"

then alot of times, you find it, get it home, and see some major gappes you didn't see out in the woods. so what do you do?-- dowel in some limbs!

you alway cut a few off the bottom to get it into the stand. just drill some 3/8ths holes in the bare spots, at a slightly downward angle, use your knife to sharpen a cut off limb, stick it into the hole, and BINGO!! spot filled! those limbs will last as long as the rest of them! if put up trees that i had to patch with 20+ limbs before, but when i'm done she looks like it came from a tree farm!!

Great tip Brian! I had never thought of that. You are right, no matter how perfect the tree looks in the woods, there is always an issue once you get it home.

However, I kinda like it anyway...after all, it was harvested ourselves and not bought out of the WalMart parking lot. Adds a bit of character if ya ask me.

Fatrooster...great pics!! Thanks for contributing.
