CO 12 preference point usage

Hi - I'm new to the site here but wanted any feedback on choices/experience from people using a lot of pref points in CO.

With 12 points I'm looking at any options available, but have dialed in on unit 21 3rd season and possibly Burns Hole ranching for wildlife.

What would you do or what have you done with your points in CO? Anyone hunt unit 21 before?

I would certainly appreciate any advise here.

I've not been up in that area, but if I had that many points I would get in touch with the ranch manager on the RFW property. I think you can find contact info on the DOW website in the RFW section. I would also find out who the DOW person(s) is in that area and look for advice. The time to talk to these folks is right now, before they get swamped with last minute solicitations for advice before the draw deadline.
I've found that talking to the DOW people at this time of year, when they realize you're putting a lot of thought towards what to do with those points, they're pretty honest with you.

Yep I agree. I've got calls out everywhere and posts on different sites for advise. I also just started looking at units 66 and 67 4th season just south of Blue Mesa Res. I know they've been hit hard with winter kills, but 4th season is very limited number of tags with lots of BLM just as with unit 21. I'm a bit reluctant about RFW due to limitations and or restrictions. Thanks for the advise.

Mesa county is #1 for B&C bucks.......Eagle county is #2 and Garfield is #3.

Thanks, I knew Eagle was up there...This is a tough freakin decision and it would really help if I could actualy get a call back from DOW. I've had messages ou tthere for a week now and no response from several officers. That is VERY frustrating.

unite 21 is good far as animals, but to many people. every camp sight in the unit is filled and come 3rd season theres alot of snow and cold and wind. not the best unit. i should know i live just down the road from it and hunted it alot

That's a lot of points. Unit 10, 4th season. :thumb For that matter, there's many 4th season hunts that you can find some bruisers.

UNit 10 4th was a consideration but dad (non resident) would like to use his 12 pts and with <5 tags I don't think he'd make it. I think I'm going with 21. If anyone knows the area I'm all ears.
