Colorad and salt licks?

hey yall, i was wonderin, if im allow to use a salt lick or two, for bow huntin mulies, in colorado? thanx nico

Nope. Can't use salt licks here-considered baiting.

I wouldn't waist my time if they were legal anyhow. For many years we had a high country cattle grazing permit so we had salt out for the cattle. Saw very little deer activity or interest in the salt. However, the elk and bear visited pretty often.

thats interesting huntingal. Does anyone know why that might be? Maybe just some weird thing for the mulies in that area, they get enough nutrients already somewhere else or somethin??

i was talking about the story with havin cattle, bears, and elk come to the salt but not deer - thats what I found ammusing, not that colorado doesnt let you set salt out.

This corner of the state has a high alkali content in the soil that carries over into the vegetation. I suppose the deer get pretty much what salt and other mineral from what they eat. Elk probably need more (the two critters do have a slightly diffenent preferance for eats) so have to supplement thier regular diet with salt blocks to get what they need. As for the bears... who knows... probably for the same reason as the elk :-k

huh, thats interesting - thanks for sharin that.. Yeah, bears come pretty much everywhere and eat or lick pretty much everything from what ive seen, haha.

Yeah there illegal here in Colorado every year some body gets busted baiting mostly on elk
