Well,
With my .223 all ready to go. I am looking to start coyote hunting here in Colorado (colorado springs/AFA), anyone have any suggestions?

Head out east and talk to a few landowners. Most, if not all, would love for someone to take some 'yotes off their land.

Wharpoley, I also agree with Abert. The further you get away from the cities the more friendlier the ranchers will be toward you hunting their land. It seems like the ones by the cities get harrassed all of the time and a lot of them have been turned off by people cutting their fences and closing gates that should have been left open so the livestack can get to water...etc.... I hope you find a good place.

I just started hunting coyotes and have also been looking for places to go. Fort Carson AFB allows hunting, but you need a $10 permit. I have tried turkey creek ranch state trust (or something like that) a bit east of fountain and it seemed decent.

There are a lot of state lands in that area and I heard that if you go to the DOW they can give you a list of what is available to hunt on. I've been meaning to get the list but havn't got around to it.

I had a lot of trouble finding anything public near Pueblo. If your up for the drive there is a lot of land in the Pawnee national grasslands east of fort collins (hour and a half from west denver).

Fort Carson allows hunting on post? hmm, $10 wouldn't be bad if i was successful...

If you are just starting into predator calling be prepared for a lot more "unsuccessful" days than successful. It takes a while to learn the ropes, the trick is to keep it fun and always learn something no matter what the outcome is.

From what I read you have to check each time to see what areas are available to hunt. I just looked a little more and found this

If you go let us know what you think.

We have some down here and in the winter we can see tracks where they circle round and round the barn, looking for a place to get inside so they can have a nice plump cat for supper! :-k

I hunt Carson for deer, elk and turkey. Have wanted to hunt coyotes also but would like for someone to show me the ropes. There are a lot of coyotes on Carson. If you would like someone to show you around down range I would be happy to. Turkey season opens soon and I will be going on opening day.

If you want to come along I would be happy to show you around as well as the procedure for gaining access. The post hunting pass is $20 dollars I think. However if you want to come along with someone that has a pass you do not need one, however you will not be able to hunt or even touch a weapon.

Also there is a State trust land east of Pueblo. I forget the name but you can find a link to trust lands on the DOW website. I hunted there, but did not see any coyote tracks in the snow. I did hear a pack of them yipping and yapping along towards dark though.

The area out east of fountain is called Turkey Track Ranch. I was there rabbit hunting last fall. There is a dog town there with lots of coyote sign around. Quite a few jack rabbits and antelope also.

Send a PM if you want more info or want to set up a date to go. I am retired army and work on Carson.
