Colorado Elk Hunt 2010

I just moved to Colorado from Minnesota this winter and have been interested in hunting elk for years. I am finally live in an elk hunter's paradise however, I have no clue as to where to start. I have looked around on Colorado's DOW website and did some searching online and have thought of starting to the north of Dillon in Summit County. I have also looked at hunting to the north of Glenwood Springs.

I am looking at a DIY hunt because it is cheaper, more challenging, and will make the hunt more rewarding whether I bag an elk or not. I live in the NW Denver suburbs and was leaning towards hunting in Dillon because it is only 1.5 hours away versus Glenwood Springs which is 2.5 hours away. It would make scouting a little easier before the season starts.

I was wondering if there was anyone from these areas or if there is anyone familiar with Colorado elk hunting that could lend some tips or point me in a better direction.
