colorado elk hunting

Will be in/around Durango colorado next week for bow season. Has anybody been there this year and how are the elk responding? Any bugling yet? Any info on what's going on around there would be appreciated,
Thanks

I was over at Bayfield Durango area the 24th and it was still kind of warm, it is getting cooler so maybe it will work for you. Go high and make sure theres water close, or hunt in low cool spots around wallows.

Try the first dirt road WEST or the Piedra River off 160. (I forget the name of it.) Go up the road 1/2 mile and park. Theres a narrow gut to the left that goes back to 160, theres elk in there( trees rubbed 10' high). ALso to the right when you park is a trail that goes WAYYY back in to other elk country.

Good luck.

silvertip-co, i think i have been where you are talking about. If you keep going south on 160 is there another dirt road that goes to a place called beaver meadows ?

I am not tring to find out where you are talking about where the elk are. It is just that i went bow hunting in that area about 3 years ago.
