Try the castles. Sraight north out of Gunnison. Sum good hunting in that area. A lot less people to. Theres one out fitter that hunts that area. Theres a few out fitters that hunt the soap creek area. And a qiute a few hunters to. Hunted the castles last year. We had a good hunt.

Go north out of Gunnison 22 miles. Along Ohio Creek Road. There is a trail head.(Swampy Pass) Thats were U go in from. The only outfitter that I no in there is. Tenderfoot Outfitters.

How close can you get to the wilderness with a truck via swampy pass? Me and my father plan on wall tenting it close to the wilderness so we can walk in every day or possibly spike out for a night or 2. Weve been debating rainbow lake, swampy pass, mill creek and soap creek--Is the swampy pass road in decent shape?? Do you hunt the national forest or do you go into the wilderness?

U can only get to the trail head at swampy pass. I have not ben there yet this year. To see the road conditions. But county road 721 (soap creek) Has that commissary hill. Which it gets very bad with a little rain or snow. U wont pull a trailer up there. Thats 4 sure. And U better have chains.
