Colorado Public Land Antelope

I will be applying for a CO muzzleloader tag. I am a new resident so I have zero PP. I'm applying for muzzleloader because the archery season will falls too much into elk and deer archery and I won't be able to hunt during the first weekend. I hope to have a conflict, in the way of a bighorn ewe tag, with the rifle season, so I plan to apply for a Muzzleloader tag.

Since they have changed this years Muzzleloader tags to more unit specific I have no data to fall back on to show me how many tags and teh likelyhood of drawing, other than the rifle tag data.

Where can I find a decent number of antelope on public ground during the muzzleloader season and have a reasonable chance of drawing the tag? I'm not concerned about trophy quality, because I've never hunted them. If a buck tag isn't possible I would be interested in the doe tag.

Hobbes, Welcome to MuleyMadness and Colorado. :)

A good site to see your drawing odds would be
http://www.huntodds.com

A lot of us in Colorado go to WY each year to antelope hunt as it usually takes a few years and several preference points to draw a Colorado Pronghorn buck tag. Drawing odds are a lot better on the eastern plains than the western part of the state but remember most of the land out east is private.

with zero pp on antelope and putting in for the draw , good luck . i have been putting in for seven years and have built up seven pp . like hiker said , go to huntodds.com and enter in your info and it will give you how many pp you need for that area . think i will take hikers advise and put in for unit 135 this year for antelope .

What about Nebraska? It looks like their archery season is a lot longer and I planned on hunting whitetails there this year anyway. Again, I'm not looking for trophy potential, just opportunity.

Nebraska might be a good option, I personally haven't hunt there. Let us know what you decide and if you decide on NE.

After looking over my chances of drawing a buck tag, I thought of just applying for a doe tag. I have absolutely no problem with shooting a doe, but I think I will just apply for buck tags knowing I won't draw, but gain the PP. If it works out and there are any leftover doe tags, I may buy one of those for the rifle or muzzleloader if the timing works out.

Then if NE works out for archery deer, I'll check out the antelope possibilities during the summer when scouting for deer. It would be easy to buy the tag over the counter and their season appears to give a bowhunter quite a bit of time unless I looked at the dates wrong.

I always figure if I make more plans than possible to work out, some of them are bound to work out and I'll get the maximum hunting time in. If I don't make any plans, then I know I"ll be sitting on the couch.

I live her in CO and have pretty much given up trying to get a tag here. I go go to WY ans shoot 2 does for under 100 bucks.....I just hunt for the time in the field and the kill is a bonus....so I do not need the buck.

How do the wyoming seasons work? Is it fairly easy to draw a tag and find animals on public land? Is there a season that it is legal to hunt with bow that does not conflict with our elk/deer season?
Of course I will look at the Wyoming Game and Fish website to find this info also.
