i'm not sure if i'm going to add colorado to my list of states to apply for, i'm thinking about it, but how does their system work?? do you have to buy the non res tag to apply[ like nevada and utah] if so what are the tag fees and liscence fees there? and do they have an option for just preference points only? how many points does it take do draw one decent buck tag there? and lastly what is the deadline in colorado? oh ya 1 more ](*,) i apply for 6 states right now what do you guys think--- is it a must add state to my applications or is it a point chaser state where if i'm not already in with some points built up it's not worth starting? thanks for any info :thumb

Killerbee, Like 9er said, our deer has really come back since you were here. You wouldn't believe the quality of bucks that Colorado is producing now. We still kill way to many elk but DOW is doing a great job managing the deer. Start building up your points, as of now it only cost $25 net, unless you purchased a license the previous year, then it only cost $3 net. Is Oregon deer, elk, sheep and goat worth applying for, for a non-resident?
9er, I'm looking forward to the call.

hiker: it's tough to say on oregon, we do have some great hunts but the time it takes to draw them is 10+yrs and every year or so they jump up another year. there is alway a chance to draw a tag with no points or any random number but it is a long shot. then add in the fact that you have to buy the non-res liscence to apply and i dont think it would make the "MUST APPLY" states. but like i said we do have some great hunts offered and if interested i'd be more than willing to share as much as you needed. there are also a ton of hunts that are easy to draw and good bucks come out of them every year, but still % wise, those aren't what i would call great hunts. its about the same situation with the elk, there are some great hunts that just take so long to draw that unless a person is started in the system then some of them [ banking on ending up with max points] you would never catch up.
but oregon sheep is excelent we have the california aand rocky mtn. in one unit every year they are killing californias that are amazing 180+ rams and they aren't on a preference points system so anyone has just as good of a chance as the next person. this is again the same with the goats except they only give out a total of 6 +/- tags for goats and those odds are completly horrible. but no preference points here either so i do apply.

Killerbee, Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. What are the odds for OR sheep?

If you want anymore info on Colorado's draw, let me know.

they are not to good, the best odds lastbyear for a tag was 0.2% :>/ for non-res there is 3 new ones this year so who knows what they will be. but every year i usually know someone who draws a sheep tag. this year it's going to be ME!!! :))

Your welcome all. And as soon as the 15' of snow melts west of the Divide we can all go hunting, but it'll probably be September #-o .
