Colorado unit20?

I hear it can be hit or miss on public land. Since I dont have access to private I was wondering if any of you have any info on deer and elk . :arrow
Intrested in bow hunting myself and a place to take the younger ones on there first deer hunt rifle later. If there are better options Im open to them too. Oh by the way I just found this site . Very refreshing after visiting so many others this one just feels right.
PM me if you wish

Pinyon, Welcome to MuleyMadness. :)
Colorado has a lot good bowhunting throughout the state. I'm not very familiar with Unit 20 but do know that most of the elk stay in the park until the snow moves them out. I'm not sure on the deer hunting in 20.

Pinyon,
There are lots of critters in CO.

Pick a couple of units, grab a map (online is free, use the NDIS maps).

Look for north facing bedding area's at least a mile from the road, feeding area's within 2 miles of that, as well as some water here and there.

Once you find a few places like that, call the DOW biologist and ask them about the area. They'll help you narrow down your search.

Then get one or two days and walk around. Look for elk sign (elk hoofs embedded in a track is usually pretty good, the track is fresh), elk rubs, smaller destroyed trees (used to rub their velvet off).

Good luck.

I shot a cow in the late elk season in unit 20. There is alot of public land you just have to know how to get to it. That is the key...along with the fact that it is hunted real hard. I find that unit 20 is good early for archery and the late cow season when the snow pushes them out the parks. Let me know what sort of critter you are looking for and I might be able to help you out.

I see you live in Lasalle. My wife is from there and we live in Evans!!
