Colorado Winter Kill Per CDOW

Hey all, I found this info. on another site (it's also on the Colorado DOW's website) and thought it was pretty interesting. It could also be helpful for those who draw a Colorado tag and for future applications/unit choices.

Wow dang, those numbers tell a sad tale for sure. Take a while for the herds to recover from that. Some of those numbers are staggering.

I was wondering this the other day. I would like to find the same info for Utah. Thanks for posting.

Sad thing is that it usually affects the older mature deer that have rutted hard and the young deer. The new fawns born during this time are also stressed and won't acheive their potential either. Usually it kills the trophy bucks and in 4 to 5 years from now there will be a whole generation basically missing or having little trophy potential.

Thx for posting that. The Colo DOW website is so extensive( as are other states I am sure) that even tho I check it 4 times a week I miss stuff. Thx again.

Any chance you have a link to that specific page???

Silvertip, below is a link to the page on the CDOW's site. Just click on the "post-hunt" population links to get the info. for each year/species. These only give the population, however, so you will have to calculate the averages on your own if you want that info. Hope this helps.
