Take The Elk Hunt of a Lifetime and Benefit Quail!

The Commonwealth Chapter of Quail Unlimited, Inc. has been awarded an at-large Elk Permit for the fall 2008 season to be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the Commonwealth Chapter’s Annual Banquet on March 1, 2008 at Claudia Sander’s Dinner House in Simpsonville, Kentucky. Prior to that, individuals can bid online at qu.org, with the high bidder from that site allowed to continue live phone bidding at the Commonwealth’s Banquet. The Permit is good for any bull or cow elk and can be used during the firearm, archery or crossbow elk seasons. Auction proceeds will benefit quail and other wildlife conservation through funding of Habitat Teams formed in partnership with Quail Unlimited and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
Kentucky’s elk program has been a smashing success among hunters seeking their trophy of a lifetime. Records have fallen nearly every year since elk hunting began in 2001, thanks to an aging herd and restrictions on the number of animals taken. The hunter success rate has exceeded 90 percent every year and many biologists believe the next world-record elk may well be taken from the Kentucky! Normally, to obtain an Elk Tag in Kentucky you must be one of the lucky few to be chosen in a random lottery for a limited number of tags, with no assurance if selected that you would get a bull or cow elk tag. Or, you can make it happen with your winning bid!
