cow hunt area 7 wyoming

I got my first elk tag ever; a cow tag in Wyoming for Area 7. I have only been in this area a few times, but not enough to be real familiar with it. I plan on a DIY hunt: drive out, camp, the whole 9 yards...Anyone familiar with this area that could give me some tips? The cow hunt I drew is the type 6, so the hunt is Oct. 15th. I have heard that there are good public areas, but have also heard it can be hard access. I was thinking I could get to Friend Park this time of year and possibly use this as my base camp. I could drive and hike from there. Might bring a ATV? Good idea? Stupid idea? Thoughts?
