Cow hunting tips

Have been unsuccessful in finding a hunting partner for this upcoming season ](*,) . I hike, which is, as I am finding out, a very undesirable quality here. (???)

So I bought an OTC antlerless tag for this season. It's a much longer season. It runs to the end of Nov.

Any tips for a guy hunting late season cow elk alone?
Is cow/calf calling helpful?
Should wait for snow?

don't wait . it is easier to see them but you have to get an idea of where they are before you see them in the snow and that takes getting out and finding them. Calling works to locate a herd but you have to be within 50 yrds for them to respond so i will usually hike then call when i get to the thickets before i go into them see if i get a responce if you do you know there in there. now its just a matter of shooting your bullet through the tree's at them till you hear one hit the ground. I suggest taking a whole box :thumb

OHF, You think only a box and not a case? I have a buddy who could drop some Agent Orange, wouldn't that be easier? (???) Thanks I needed a good laugh at work today 10sign: .

All my life I've hunted in pairs or teams with great success. Since moving from Wyoming to Idaho I've only met hunters who drive trucks, ATV's or hunt from horseback. I hike! :thumb

I have been scouting since June. Found elk. Just trying to pick up some tips on getting a shot. I've only called bulls. Have had cows come in when calling bulls during rut. Rut will most likely be over by antlerless season.

I've only met a couple guys who hunt cows. One guy hunts from horseback, but waits for it to snow up high when they come down to the valley floor. The other guy hikes but has only had success once in over a decade. :>/

Any tips?

Glad you got the joke :thumb
i just had to do that it was funny. I have hunted Cow and can not get them to commit anything but a call back. when they do I wait move to another location and call again. this helps me pin point them. I hike also =D>
once i know there location I move slow sometimes on my knees and not on a trail they expect animals running trails so they usually focus on them this is the only way i have ever gotten into there beds and gotten one. I have gotten spikes the same way and waiting for them to come to bedding areas before dawn.
Best i can help i am afraid. good luck
