Decoy

Going way high this trip and was wandering if any body has used a montana decoy for elk and with what results. Going by myself and need anything(legal) that may draw attention away from me. Wondering if it's worth the extra weight.

I carry and use a decoy, works nice in the avalanch chutes in the little pines. I put two holes in the top and put a string so I can hang it quickly on a branch. I put mine up with some scent then I move between the bull and the decoy. I had good success with this last year. Good luck

I always carry one but find it's very difficult to use. We're constantly moving around to try and get in a better position on a bull that eventually the decoy gets ignored. That being said. A few years ago I was calling next to a decoy and pulled in a nice 6x6 that my friend shot. He's convinced that the decoy held the bulls attention while he slipped 10 yards closer. I'm not sure how we would ever prove that though.

The one thing I will admit is I've never seen a bull run from the decoy, so it can't hurt to try.

I've noticed if you are hunting alone its tough to in corporate the decoy, but when you have a partner you can use the decoy more as you move.

i have the broadside cow. i had one instance in montana that it worked awsome! the bull seen it and came in on a string!

but overall, i do find it a bit of a nucance[SP??] so alot of times i leave it at home. i should carry and use it more often though, i have seen them work great

Thanks guys I'll give it a shot. I've got the last 10 days of archery in CO to hunt one down.

I've been carrying one this year as I'm hunting solo a lot but have only pulled it out once. Haven't had the chance to really get set up as I too have been on the move more than sitting and waiting. Perhaps that's my problem. :-k
