Deer Co Cain

I just bought a bag of Deer Co Cain from Sportsman's Warehouse and the guy there swore by it. I have never given it much thought, but since I am now an archery hunter I'm realizing I need all the help I can get. Do any of you have any experience with this stuff? Or others like it?

Thanks,

Brandon

I tried it this year attempting to get some deer coming in to my game cameras. It didn't seem to attract them at all. There will be some people on here that swear by it but it didn't work in my situation and I won't waste my money on it again.

Bowtech if you look at the package it contains mostly salt in one form or another. The deer will go to it when they are eating alot of green matter. Mostly in the spring and summer. It's fun to set a trail cam over and get velvet footage in the summer but they usually stop coming to it by early fall.

Deer cain works great pre-rub on both deer, elk and Moose. I have been using it for 4 years now and have tons of pics of deer, elk and Moose going nuts over it.... but as soon as they rub off the velvet, I have found they prefer the trophy rock.

Sorry it did not work for you sharpstick... I have hundreds of pic of them using it.. works for me.

Good luck...

This year I tried Deer Cocaine, deer caine, Buck Jam, and salt rocks. The Deer Caine worked the best, probably because I read and followed directions. That's important. But all it seemed to atract were does. I got some great elk pics though. #-o

Its all about placement. I have had some pounded by animals and some barely touched.

Good advice, and I does seem to be crucial that you follow the directions as they are quite specific. I put some out and we'll see what happens, maybe a little late in the season though...

Thanks for the responses.

So how did the Deer Cocaine work for you? I am interested in hearing your report.

I didn't use it right. The best results came from the deer caine, because I followed directions. But all that could sit and lick the ground were does. Anything male would just walk by. I boty 100s of pictures of elk though.

I put some out about a month ago and haven't been back, I'm going back this week and probably over Thanksgiving, I'll report then. The thing that sucks is that my trail camera got stolen a few months back and I won't have a new one until next year. I'll give a full report next year through the spring and summer with the new camera.

So is it legal in Utah to hunt over Deer Co Cain or Mineral Rocks? I called the DNR and the person wasn't able to tell me yes or no. She said it is a "Moral choice." If this stuff works like some of you are saying and if it is legal to use then it would be very benificial to sit in a tree stand over it.

salt rocks work like a dream and are CHEAP. Had elk and deer in it everyday for two months. had over 500 pics every week and a half.

It's never mentioned in the "Illeagal hunting methods" of the proclamation, but I've been told that once the season starts, you can't have it in your posession. But that sorce isn't official.

If it's not in the proclamation then there is no way anyone can say boo about it. The Big Game Proc. is the law pertaining to big game hunting. "Moral Choice"???? That's funny.

Admiral - Anyway, I haven't been back up there to that spot I put out the Deer Co Cain on, I'm thinking that come Spring I'll give it the old college try. I think I put it a little too high for this time of year anyway, probably wasted my money, but trial and error is what I'm all about. Usually error!

It's alot cheaper to just go buy feed salt at the feed store for. $5 for 50 lbs! Last longer and works the same, u can add some di-calcium phosphate, trace mineral salt to the feed salt and make it a beneficial lick

ealier in here it mentioned they will commonly come to these in the spring and summer before they fully rub out of thier velvet. has anyone else noticed that trend? and if so then i would think that is great for the very begining of archery....

They are still hitting the salt but even by then it's tapering off.
