Did ya ever wonder?

About what difference different aperatures setting can make? I was looking at one of my bird photo's last night and noticed the feeder hanger in it. Looked out the window at it and saw what is really there and thought it might be intresting to show what difference it can make. But understand that long lense's also tend to blurr the backgrond.

So here is the bird I was looking at. The camera setting was an aperature of 6.3 @ 1/1250th sec. and zoomed to 500 mm. Notice the wire hanger for the feeeder:

Now here is the same spot but the zoom is set at 170mm. The camera setting is f32 @ 1/160th sec. See the hanger?

Just fooling with the aperature speed's and shutter opening's completely changes the picture. I might add that the ISO speed might need changed also to accomadate different setting's. Nothing here was retouched in photoshop. I don't know how to use photoshop!

One of these days, when I get the time, I'll start playing around with the camera. Thus far, I pretty much just use all the auto settings. Yet another hobby to take up in the future.

I'm guessing that's a Purple Finch, closest I can find in my book. Maybe a Cassin's Finch but to much red? That's a Cassin's Finch above. And the House Finch has red and orange on it. Really like shooting these birds, took a lng time to figure out how!
