Digital Rebel XT died. :(

So a few weeks ago my trusty ole Rebel XT kicked the bucket. :>/

It was giving me an "error 99" and doing a bunch of other weird crap and then quit entirely and wouldn't even turn on.

I shipped to the Canon Service Center last week and it'll be $206.25 to repair it. Pretty expensive also of course, but I had no choice.

I've had it for a year and 4 months, 4 months to late obviously. Darn warranty expired!

Anyway I should get it back next week, but for all or anyone that is considering a Rebel XT or 300 or 20D you'd be smart to get or buy the extended warranty.

This is a pretty common error or problem as I discovered in this thread...

That's to bad to hear that Brett.

Sounds like you didnt have the Ext. Warr. on it huh?

I have always bought the warranty but have not been able to use it yet.
I think when the time comes it will be well worth it.

Good luck.

If I buy extended warranties it never breaks down but when I don't it seems that everything goes wrong. I guess that's just how it works. Sorry to hear about your camera Brett.

I paid $42 for an extended warranty on a portable DVD player 2 Christmas's past. The DVD player "died" this past February and I took it back to the Sears store. They replaced, no questions asked, with the current vastly upgraded version at no additional cost with the same extended warranty.

Buying extended warranties for $100 or less on electronic goods that you expect to use for several years is a good hedge against a likely failure.
