DIY Archery Mule Deer Hunt

Me and a buddy are looking into going out west to try and arrow a muley, we were gunna go with an outfitter and still might but might want to hunt public land. We are from Southern Iowa and Northern Mo so not real familiar with the game. Any help with public land would be great! Perfer to hunt South Dakota or Nebraska! Thanks!
