Does this happen often?...

Yesterday while out on a fair hike (hunt) I ended up walking right up on this. At first I figured that someone had stuck it up there, but the more I thought about it, the less likely it seemed. The area is quite a ways from roads and right on a decent game trail. There were no other human tracks around and I don't figure anyone has been in there. There are some pretty big bears about over here and most folks are just plain scared to head into the woods until about this time of year for fear of being a story in the newspaper.
Is it possible that last spring a stag was trying to get that thing off his head and used a tree for a little help and ended up sticking it? Maybe this is fairly common? I have been finding lots of sheds here, and I have came upon quite a few back home, but I've never heard of one being in a tree.... What do you guys think? :-k

Considering your description, I agree with you...sounds like he used the tree to help free the antler and it managed to stay stuck.
Cool!
