Drawing the AZ Strip Tag

To begin, I've been hunting Deer in AZ for over 20 years. This year I drew a 13B tag and harvested a nice buck. I would say this hunt was by far the toughest Deer hunt I've ever been on! For all the do it yourself hunters who are thinking about, or do put in for the Strip every year and don't have a clue about the area, I would think twice about it. First off this unit is BIG, if you don't have a game plan then it comes down to a 100% luck. Then this unit can also be very intimidating, big mountains and big canyons, need I say more?? Thirdly the feelings of being overwhelmed, like I said earlier without a game plan you will always feel overwhelmed. Also if your not big into glassing your chances of not seeing Deer is very good. Good optics is a must in this unit. I saw small Bucks everyday, being able to pass up the small ones gets mentally tough as the hunt goes on. I'd like to throw this quote in from the 13B Game Warden " Don't get discouraged if you don't see any Deer for several days" like I said this can be true without optics. Lastly if your not a road hunter make sure you don't leave your truck without your GPS, as most of you know this can be your lifesaver. To conclude I hope this info helps the average hunter like myself. The hunt was fun, however it wasn't what I had anticipated when putting in for this unit. Go visit the unit, it's beautiful!!!! Enjoy
