Drew NM restricted muzzleloader tag!!

The guys over on in the muzzleloader section seem to be EXTREMELY tight-lipped so I'm posting here in general mule deer.

I drew a restricted muzzleloader tag for NM's unit 33 near Roswell for Oct. 20-24th. I would just love to hear something about this area. No secret spots or anything, just a general heads up on what to expect would be nice: What size muley am I looking for, (any fork-antlered deer is legal) should I hold out for a 24-26" 4X4 or do they even exist here?
Also, road conditions, scouting techniques(I'm allowing 3 days for scouting), hunting techniques, what type of terrain? should I focus around water? on the flats? rougher breaks? sporting goods stores in the area where I can purchase powder/caps? ANYTHING? Even a "good luck"?

Undeterred.

Actually, I know nothing about the area or hunt. Sorry, but I'm hoping eventually someone will see and respond.

it is a little different when you dont have a family farm to go to year after year, i put in for 6 different states and been to about 2/3 of the units i apply for. when it comes down to it you still just have to start hunting and depend on your hunting skills to get you to the game, but it doesn't hurt to ask around along the way to see if anyone else has any input on where to go. i always will give a direction to someone if they ask, noone usually tries to get your secret honey hole just a general starting point i.e. head north of p-ville and take any road to the right and start from there. i really tests your knowledge of the game your after. but in the end your not going to do any good until you just start hunting. every where you hunt there has to be a " first trip" sometime.

CasadordeChivo:: i asked earlier where it was in reference to towns, i've spent lots of time guideing hunters in different parts of new mexico but unfortunatly never that part. i usually start my trial trips by getting to the highest point i can and start glassing! a few times i've gone down to the local pub a few days before the hunt and got some good info on starting points by just chatting with some good ol' boys around. this really worked out great last year in montana, the guys sent us to try out a trail head and so the next day we got up there and started glassing their were bulls everywhere! good luck and hope you are sucessful, would love to see some pics!
