Any that don't cost a arm and a leg that work ?????
My 8 month old lab pup is getting a little stubborn and does not always come straight back when retrieving. Also he sometimes ignores me when I call him !! I thinks he is in his TEENAGE faze !! :>/

The sportdog 1800 is nice, you have aprox 16 levels of stimulation, and can control up to 3 dogs if you wanted to. Completly waterproof.
I shoped around for awhile for mine, looking at all the brands and for the money I don't think you can go wrong.
Tritronics are reall nice to but are a bit more pricy.
E-collars are a great tool but they aren't a magic cure all. A collar should only be used to enforce commands that your dog already knows. They aren't meant to train a dog, only to correct your dog for not obeying the known command. Collar conditioning is an important step in his training.
It sounds like your 8 month old is still acting like a puppy. That's becuase he is a puppy! It sounds more like an obedience issue than a stubborn teenage issue.
If you're having a problem with your 8 month old dog not returning to you, use a check cord for now. A 30' to 50' check cord is a great tool. Until your dog is reliable with the return, keep him on a check cord. Wear gloves too. Rope burns are painful... ask me how I know! You can buy one, or you can make your own. A 3/8" braided rope with a clip on one end and a knot on the other end is all you need.
A couple of great books are Smartwork by Evan Graham and 10 Minute Retriever by John and Amy Dahl. Buy either of those and you'll be way ahead of your dog in no time!
Here's a link to the Dahls book:
