Early Season Archery Elk Techniques

I will be hunting the first part of the Colorado Archery Elk Season (end of August to mid-September). This will be my first elk hunt, and I am looking for some tips on hunting this part of the season. I have read a lot of books/magazine articles, but I want to see what tips and techniques you guys use to be successful. What tips and techniques do you guys use? For example, what type of calling do you do and how much? Do you do spot-and-stalk, listen for them then try and move closer before calling, or just sit over a water hole?
Thanks for the help!

First two weeks of September -- Find a place where the elk are at. Sit down and get good wind. Cow call with a series mews and gradually build to hyper estrus calls for about 2-3 minutes, 5 at the longest. Make a lot of noise walk around break twigs so forth. Then sit quietly for 15 minutes start again. I do this over and over for three hours. The bulls will come in silent. They are looking for cows right now. Don't use a bugle. Biggest mistake bowhunters make is not being patient enough. If you know the elk are within a mile to half mile they will hear you and work slowly towards you. If you find a wallow and it is active hang a tree stand and sit in it as long as you can until you have bad wind.

That is what I do.
