The 'rut' starts in mid-August, the 'peak' of the rut is in mid to late September. I have called bulls into archery range in every month of the year, but September is the easiest and funnest because they will more likely bugle then. I have called many bulls in during August with cow calls. In fact, I prefer the last few days of August and the first few days of September over any other time of the year to call bulls into bow range.

I also have questions about this. Should you completely avoid bugling? Ive heard that using a non threatening bugle without growls or chuckles or anything is a good locater, then from there you just use cow calls. What is everyone elses opinion on this?
