Easton FMJ & super glue?

So i have been shooting Easton Full Metal Jackets with hiden inserts lately and have ran into an interesting problem. I shot an arrow at a very old target in my back yard and the arrow burried itself to the vanes and hit the WOOD, not metal, not a brick wall but a WOOD fence behind it. I figured i had just hit an old hole thus the reason for it going so deep so i shot again and had the same problem. #-o So of course i stopped shooting. I walked the 30 something yards to the target to retrieve my arrows and kick the old target. I pulled out the first arrow and noticed the vanes were not destroyed or torn but they look like they were slightly stretched backwards. I pulled the second arrow out and same problem with the vanes BUT this also had a new problem. The practice tip had BROKEN off at the threads down inside the hidden insert. (???) :>/ I cant reach it with pliers, i cant heat up and knock out the insert, it broke off clean so a screwdriver isnt able to turn it, i want to drill into it and pull it out but am at college and nowhere near my tools, im thinking of super gluing a screwdriver to it and hoping i can turn it? any one have any other ideas? should i just give up now? and should i worry about the vanes at all??? :>/ (???)

P.S. talked to a guy at sportsmans warehouse. He said "i cant do anything about it but i can tell you that i have seen this twice before so you are lucky number three" ](*,)

You probably can't drill it out but you can run the drill backwards and if it's not wedged too badly it may come out. The superglue trick may work. But, since I had an arrow that I hit hard and had no apparent damage blow up after a few more shots I just toss them. I didn't get hurt but I checked for blood and splinters. I know another guy that had the same thing happen to him. He discards any that get whacked badly now. It's just not worth it.

Im a auto tech so i have reverse drills and reverse bits and taps and things like that but they are all at the shop. I hate to throw it away though its pretty expensive on a college student salary. It was going to be marked and used for first shots trying arrow affliction tricks (first to get lost) or things like shooting at random jack rabbits things like that. Also the guy at Sportsmans said that he felt that it was the strongest arrows made and if i got it out (though he wasnt willing to try anything) should probably be good, and i hit a piece of old wood fencing and am amazed that the tip broke but i couldnt see the "industries leader in strength" arrow getting hurt so easy. I understand what your saying and in other circumstances i would probably listen so thanks for the warning and wish me luck.

Maybe just set it aside and wait till you can get to your tools. Then MABE you can gfet the broken piece out. Good luck.
I wouldn't get super glue around that insert, you get that in the theads and you may really be screwed.

I have to agree with Mark, in my opinion you need to make triple sure that the arrow does not have any cracks in it. If you have one let go it can be a very bad deal. #-o
I shoot the Full Metal Jackets as well, and you can rest assured they are very tough but they will still break.
I have never been successful in getting broken tips out of them, but I am sure it can be done. If they tip is sitting back tight against the shaft you will have a hard time breaking the tip off.

Good luck

I too had a carobn arrow blow up in my face. It is not a pleasureable experiance. Do yourself a favor and trash it IMO.

Having arrows blow up in your face could also be damaging to your bow. Not worth the $12. IMO.

Not sure if the insert is still in the arrow? If so take the nock out and get a long rod of some sort and knock that insert till it comes out. You can find an insert for around 80 cents or so. If not and you ive in the utah area come and grab one from me.

Find a drill bit that will fit insisde the arrow and using your arm and momentum slam the drill bit into the insert and it may knock the insert out....that is how I have gotten some insert out of my FMJ's. If that does not work....scrap it....$12 alot cheaper than what can happen if the arrow breaks while shooting it....trust me!
