I know of several cases in Nevada. A kid lost a horse last weekend at the winnemuca high school rodeo and a lady lost one in las vegas just a few days ago. We have a horse leased to a high school rodeo contestant who was boarding our horse next to the horse that passed away at the rodeo but have been informed that no fever or symptoms have started occuring

Hope your horses is ok. As far as I know, all horse events in Idaho have been cancelled for the next two weeks. Also all riding arenas are on lock down. Several vet clinics are quarantined. I have a mare about to foal at a vet clinic. Scares me a alot to have her there. According to AQHA the virus is airborne. Prayers to all owners with sick horses.

The only other thing that can catch it is llamas and alpacas

Thisis a very bad virus considering that it is air-born. I hope they can put this one to bed quickly. fatrooster.

This sure put a damper on the shows this year. I have a 3 year old colt that's primed and ready to show, but now all arenas are closed and all shows cancelled.
Fatroooster is correct, with the virus airborne it puts it in an all new class of seriousness. I read yesterday the horse that infected the horses at the ogden show came from Canada. So the rumors that it developed in Utah is incorrect. It just spread from there by the Canadian horse. Im even hesitant to trail ride. Never know what horse may have been on the trail.
Hope this clears up quickly.

That's correct, only horses can get it. Latest update for Utah is that there are 6 confirmed cases and one that died from it this weekend.
