elk hunting

Will beef cows move elk out of an area or will they share habitat?

Both in my opinion. I've seen them share habitat a lot.

I've seen cows move deer out of an area, so could move Elk also. But not to far or much IMO.

I agree with Brett. I have seen on Easton's hunting show where the host used a Herford as a distraction in getting closer to an elk as the bull thought the noise the hunter made was just the cattle. I have also seen how the ranchers herding their cattle out of the area moves the elk way out; we learned to watch ahead and to the side of the cattle herd and here came the elk.

I agree with both Brett and Huge. If the cattle aren't being herded then the elk usually don't mind them much at all. If the cattle are being pushed though they sure can move wildlife out of an area. It just all depends on the #'s of cattle and their movement.

I've hunted areas where there were cattle and the animals didn't mind too much. If cowboys go through everyday and push some cows and elk out of the public areas back onto the ranch it really hurts the hunting though.

Around here I rarely see any elk or fresh sign where the damn cows are. I have always felt that the elk move when those things enter the forest.
