What is the most efficient way to hunt elk in an area with deep canyons that go up to a flat area where it is full of pinon trees. there is some larger timber but most of it is pinons and there is a nice large pond. I would be hunting this area during the archery season in the rut in southern colorado. any help would be awesome...

Id look for pockets in the pinions that offer food and water near the deep canyons. Tree stands would probably work well if there are trees to hang them in. I had this problem last year, after a couple of days of wondering aimlesly through the thick pinions I looked for a spot where the animals had good feed and escape routes and ended up doing pretty well. Can you use salt or other attractants?
