That's really to bad. I'm starting to worry about our deer herds here in Idaho as well. I think the whole west is feeling the effects this year. It really erks me to see all the building going on in these cities where our deer use to winter. Just so someone can be higher on the hill. The snow wouldn't have this much effect on the herds if there was still feed to eat, but no someone had to develop the land!! :>/

I am trying to get someone to call me back from the DWR, I want to help with the feeding program along with many of my friends. I will post what info I get back from the DWR.

Parts of MT are buried as well.If your F&G are anything like ours they wont let you feed, they dont want to concentrate the deer, there are some good reasons why.

It's too bad how everyone says that the northern deer herd is struggling maby if people didn't build there house where deer rightfully belong they wouldn't be struggling. Eventually the northern deer herd will look like the Utah pheasant herd because of loss of winter range. I am lucky enough to live where there aren't a lot of people and I have a bench ubove me full of sage brush and plenty of winter feed. The deer I go look at every day still look plump and can come low enough to only be in about a foot of snow. Yet there are some tough bucks that I watch with my spotting scope that stay in the high country. Hopefully conditions begin to get better.

It sound like a lot of the west is getting some serious snow and ice. That's a bummer about N. Utah's deer herd. NONYA, I see what you are saying about feeding them in a tight feedyard, as it does bring along other problems, but from what I understand, Colorado's DOW spreads the feed out quite a bit, to avoid some of the problems you mentioned and the feed we use stays on top of the snow so hopefully the deer can eventually find it. Hopefully we will have an early spring and most of these deer will make it through.

Well looks like the Boise front here in Idaho has been closed down today. No access what so ever. Spent time up there this weekend and was hiking around in 2' of snow and we got hit again with another 6 inches to a foot. It's suppose to warm up a little this week and be pretty dry, so I hope that helps. The deer and elk are down really low this year. With 20,000 wintering deer and then all the elk coming down it doesn't leave alot of feed. :>/

I really wish they would start feeding in the NE region to. Weve had more snow this year then we've had in probaly 10 years!!! Anybody else who lives in the basin can totally back me up on this.

I honestly don't think its as bad as people are making it out to be. Yes, there are a few isolated areas that really need some help but as the whole region goes. It's looking good for the next year. I think we all have been in a drought so long, we have forgotten what a normal or slightly above normal year looks like. Most of the south facing ridges should be melted off and open in a week or two. All the mnts. west of I-15 and south of I-80 are looking great.
