Extended Archery

Hey everyone, does anybody have some tips or advise for hunting the wasatch extended area (like where to go and what type of method to hunt it)?

Buy a good pair of boots and binos lol . No seriously I have hunted it for 12 years now, and I'm really just getting it figured out. The farther you hike the better off you'll be! See you up there!!

There are tons of trailheads along the wasatch front. You can go to the DWR bookstore or REI and get books that show all of them. Thats a good way to start. Other than that take a drive one afternoon find a place to park, and take off. thats how I started, and I'm hooked! Only place I hunt anymore.

you say you have been hunting the front for 12 years now. Wow that is a long time. you must have killed something in that time while hunting up there. why don't you post a few photos of your success to keep us motivated to continue to hike those hills.

Just take about three or four afternoons get out before dark and glass. Those bucks will show you where there at. Then hike your butt off.

Depends on what part is closest to you it seems like. I hunt corner canyon and what has worked best for me is glassing the mountain then when I see one if I have time I go up after it.

After this weekend I am hooked myself... This is what I saw in Town on my way to the wasatch front.... classic
I glassed some nice bucks over the weekend stalked a couple but didn't get it done... to many eyes and ears.
I wish I would have ran more flights of stairs my thighs still burn but I saw deer and the guys I talked to road hunting didn't.

Archery only south of I-80 in Salt Lake county. You can hunt East canyon and Emmigration during the rifle hunt, but I dont reccomend it. Took my brother out this year on the North side of Parleys. What a joke!! Everywhere I looked there was orange marching through the brush. Even before it was light enough to shoot we had a guy go stomping through a canyon we had planned to hunt. Rifle hunters have no skills ](*,) lol

Those aren't rifle hunters, they're what I call pumpkins. I bet I could introduce you to some riflemen who could show you some skills. I'm a die hard boom-flopper, but I have to admit that when I killed a blacktail with the 35lb recurve that my wifes high school boyfriend gave her, it was pretty cool.
If I ever meet him I'm gonna tell him all about it too lol ---shooter

I know there are some pretty savvy old scoolers out there, but (most) present day rifle can be lazy. I'm Just getting you Orange Bullies all fired up :thumb

Totally agreed. I'm glad that most of these guys are lazy because if they were all as savvy as most bowmen, we wouldn't have too many deer left with the tag numbers that I have seen. I might be re-joining the bowhunting ranks out here in Ut as I think that there's alot more general tag opportunity. I kind of want to try an antelope with the old Hoyt too.---shooter
