First Coyote!!

Went to Wyoming on a Mule deer hunt, had planned on going for Antelope after we tagged out on deer. Well, due to lack of propper planning and Monday being Columbus Day. Game and Fish was closed and not tags.....so our friend we were hunting with being local to the area suggested we go for coy dogs, I said what the heck. Why not...All I had was my 7mm mag and I only took 5 shells with me, cause I really didnt expect to see any. Boy, was I wrong! On our 1st set up we had 3 come in on a dead run straight to the speaker within 2 minutes of turning it on. (DYEING JACKRABBIT) I wacked the closest one 10 yards in the head. and swung on another...man are they fast I hit 10 feet behind him. so the other 2 got "educated" by me and the 2 others hunting with me. On our next setup they would go crazy answering us but wouldnt come in. We moved again and had 2 come to that set up. Both of them took a dirt nap!!
Here are some pictures of the hunt, I'm hooked now...need another gun though, the 7mag messes them up pretty good. I was thinking about a .243 wssm for a combo preditor/Deer gun. Any thoughts on that cartridge???

The 243 would be an awsome caliber for covering both sides of the predator/deer spectrum. I don't know much about the WSSM versions but the good old 243 is a hard caliber to beat. It can be loaded down for varmit hunting but still has the loads to knock a deer dead in it's tracks. I bought a 7MM Ultra Mag because I liked the 7 Mag but just wanted a little more zing on the bullets. The thing that I didn't realize is that there are only a few loads for that caliber right now unlike the many that there are for just the 7 Mag. The other thing to think about is the avalibility of shells. You will be able to find regular 243 everywhere if you find your self in a pinch where as the WSSM's will be harder to come by. These are a couple of things that I didn't think of when I was getting my gun. Not that it would have changed my mind but they are worth thinking about. :-k

Either way I think that you will have a great gun. =D>

As for calibers, I agree 100% with a_bow_nut. The .243 is a great coyote rifle!
