First Kill

After reading that story that Notenoughtags posted about his brothers first buck it gave me an idea. I would love to see everyone's first big game kill and hear a short story about it. I know that even though my first buck definatley didn't break any records I am still very proud of it.
I hunted for two years without ever firing a shot because I passed on so many young bucks. My third year I drew out for a muzzle loader tag and hunted my hind end off. Late on the third evening of the hunt I spoted this buck 80 yards off the road while heading back to camp. I made a perfect shot and had my first buck! Now everyone else please share yours!

I'd love to show a pic of my first big game kill, it was a cow elk, but I don't have a single picture of her. :>/

I don't have a photo of mine either. But it was a doe, about a 300 yard shot walking broadside. My Uncle was with me at the time ( I was 14 years old) he called it the best shot he had seen in a long time and was pretty surprised I think. Double lung shot, she went about 50 yards straight down hill and was dead. I think my shots have gotten worse since then. :)

Great picts! And congrats on your first buck!
Heres my first bull.
3 years ago I was planning on going elk hunting up the canyon and my best friend called said he seen a few bulls that night before right outside of town, I decided to drive up there just to check it out.. 8 am Going up the road I seen a bull running thru the scrub oak about 1/2 miles away.
My heart was pounding like crazy, I pulled off the road grabbed my backpack and my .280 and started running down the dirt road to where I seen him. I also noticed about half way there 3 other hunters going in the same direction.. I was determined to beat the other guys.. I ran nonstop. He was standing in the scruboak about 100 yards away, he couldnt see me but knew I was there. I crawled on my hands and knees and laid in the tall grass..1 shot and he went down. I was so excited.. And of course I was alone and didnt get to share my experiance with anyone. But thats ok.. Hes not the biggest but I am still proud that I shot and gutted the little 5x3 myself..
someone had shot him the year before and when I cleaned the skull I found the bullet still lodged in his pedicle. poor guy!

Congrats on your first big game kills. The first experience is a special one for sure. To Antlers out West, that is crazy that your elk had a bullet in the pedicle. I'm suprised that he grew the next year or was he shot during the same year you took him?

I don't have a photo of my first kill either. Over in a post that 79Ford did called Deer gets revenge after hunter shoots him, I tell an embarrassing story about my first kill go read it for a laugh.

The ordeal took several hours. I had told my dad that was was going to hike into a bowl below our camp for one last attempt while he broke camp. Over four hours later I dragged my first big game animal into an empty camp. It was a little bow killed spike. My dad had pack up camp and driven around to the far side of the bowl. He figured because I was gone so long that I had crossed over the the other side of the valley and that he would pick me up so that I wouldn't have to hike back. By the time he came back down to get me we had to throw the deer in the truck and be on our way back. My mom needed my dad to be home for something that evening so we never got around to photos in the rush to get home. You can bet that if I did have a photo of the experience, I'd look like an akward teenager with a big cheesy grin holding the smallest legal spike you ever did see. After wiping the milk from his mouth he did make some great table fare.

my first was a little forky! i was every bit as excited about that buck as i was on the biggest buck i've ever killed! but no pictures. i do have a picture around of my second buck i'll dig through the photoes and find. but still no good field photoes. just in camp holding up the biggest 3 points are group had ever seen! [ at that time] we have a law here in oregon that they just started a year or two ago. kids can start hunting when they are 12, the same as when i was a kid. but if you want to put them in a youth mentoring program, they can fill an adults tag for them when they are 9 yrs old! i think it's great. they HAVE to be with an adult all the time. there is just 1 tag between them so just 1 gun. i cant wait till my 2 1/2 yr old daughter and 3 month old boy get that chance. i will gladly give up my deer tag to get them in the game as soon as i can!

Wow, my first kill. :-k :-k It was about 45 years ago in Vermont. I shot a little spike with my grandfathers 35 remington. He was at 100 yards and went down in his tracks. I then aquired a new surplus 6.5 Swede and sporterized it. The meat was important so I gained a reputation for being a good provider. I don't think cameras were invented yet so there aren't any pictures. lol

No pictures of my first either. It was a three point buck about 20" wide on the opening day of the rifle hunt in Utahs southeastern region. It was about 9 am on opening morning and the buck was feeding in a small clearing, slightly uphill and approximately 300 yrds away. One shot from my 30-06 through the lungs and he was DRT! That was a good hunt full of good memories..

My first animal was about 4 or 5 months ago, I went up above my grandparents house with my dad, 4 cousins (Mark, Seth, Dave and Andrew), and was looking for a spike elk Dave had seen the night before. We got there and about 15 minutes after we got up there we seen the elk headin over to a little spring. My dad and I started the mile long stock to get to the elk. When we got down there the elk were on the hill adjacent to us about 400 yards away. I took the first shot and hit but got so excited that I couldn't hit him while he was walking toward me. After 5 more shots he was about 250 yards when he bedded down and I hit him in the leg. He stood back up and I shot him in the spine and he dropped with my last bullet. My cousins had started to head down and while they were coming down I looked over and the elk was standing on its front legs. We didn't know what to do but then we remembered the bullet I had dropped while I was loading my gun. We went and found it and then finished it off. That was my first big game animal.
