First shotgun

What was yours first shotgun? Mine was a J.C. Higgins single shot 16ga. It had an exposed hammer you had to cock to shoot, a 32" barrel and a plastic stock with a plug in the butt to add sand for weight. It was closely followed by a much fancier Mossberg bolt action in 16ga with a poly choke! It wasn't quite as fast as the single shot for a second shot.

Mine was a Monkey Wards single shot .410...you either learned to shoot with it or went home empty handed.

When I turned 18 I bought a Remington 870 wingmaster 12 ga.

Mine was also a single shot break open with the exposed hammer, in 20ga. I don't remember the Make and model. It was actually my dads. My first shotgun that was "Mine" was a Remington 870 Express. In fact I still have it today, it is a workhorse for sure.

Hand me down break open, single shot .410 with the hammer you had to cock back. Youth model my dad got for my oldest brother when he was about 7 or 8 and passed down from my brother through my other two brothers and me.

I had it for a while for my kids when they got old enough and then passed it on to one of my cousins for his kids. Not sure where it is now but my brother's kids are getting to the age where it should come back to him.

That's the great thing about a good firearm. You can always pass it on to the youngsters!

Mine was a H&R Topper single shot, 20 ga. I bailed hay @ $2.00 per hour and saved up around $30 and my older brother pitched in another $20 and we purchased it brand new. He purchased a Stevens 16 ga at the same time. I ended up trading a gun rack, that I made while in HS shop class for the Stevens later on and still own the 16 ga to this day.

I've got an old Stevens side by side 12ga that is probabliest the best shooting shotgun I've ever held. My dad just gave it to me a few years ago after years of begging and pleading. I believe I took my first pheasant and many more after with it.

My first was a Stevens break action .410. I remember being so excited seeing my Dad come home from work carrying it as I had just turned 12 and hunting season was just around the corner. I thought it was so cool that it would break down with a pull of the stock. I was always breaking it down and putting it back together just for fun.
I prefer my Browning 2000 these days, but Dad still uses the .410 shoot coons off the front porch. Yeah redneck and proud of it.
