First Southern Utah Bowhunt

A friend and I are planning a 2 week muley archery hunt by backpack in southern utah. We are not afraid of tough rugged country. I have put in the for the Paunsaugunt for 3 years and have not been drawn...no surprise. I intend on hunting the northern Kaiparowitz Plateau area...south of Escalante.

Just wondering if anyone has hunted in the area and what their success has been. If you could share with me the quantity and size of animals seen. I am not asking for exact locations to hunt...just wondering if I will be hunting in an area with any trophy potential.

If anyone has the name and number of the local game biologist in this area the information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I've been in that part of the country and have glassed some decent bucks in years past. However, the last few I've seen less and less in that general area.

If you're into backpacking and want to see hunt some beautiful alpine country that holds some good bucks, I'd hunt the Beaver Mountains. I've seen some toads in the backcountry 3-5 miles in the roadless areas. Hope it helps.

The beaver mountains have some pretty big bucks. I have hunted quite a bit out by the boulders as well, pretty good area.
