First time Mule Deer hunter

Hey guys,
I'm a long time whitetail hunter from Georgia and Alabama but recently have aquired a small peice of land in Montana with direct access to Custer National forest. I'm going out in June to see the property and get a feel for it, then going out in the fall with a couple of friends (all who are new to mule deer) to hunt Mule deer and elk. I've already contacted MTFW regarding tags, dates, etc. I'm just posting this to get some tips and some info regarding the area as it relates to big game. Any info will be appreciated.
Just to let you know, I'll be taking my 7mm and I know that there will be a lot more work involved than whitetail hunting.

What part of the Custer are You in?
Elk Hunting is by special permit mostly. And Elk are mostly on private property.
Deer get a lot of hunting pressure, in the Forest and not that much on the ranchland.
But, that's not at all a bad place to own land. You'll find Mule Deer, White Tails too. :thumb
