First Time Wyoming Hunt

I apologize in advance if this topic has been beat to death but I honestly could use the help. Three of us are interested in travelling to north central/eastern Wyoming in search of mulies this fall. We are experienced hunters for various game in different states but could use some direction. I've commonly found in many of my out of state hunts (especially South Dakota and NW Nebraska) that the mulies know the private land boarders vs. public land borders. My research thusfar shows that Region Y and C are solid options for public land which we prefer to hunt for the personal satisfaction and historic feeling of a rustic camp tent. If we are the type of hunters who spend little time in the truck and more on foot hows the outlook? We're not looking to break the books open but harvest "respectable mulies" (20" 4s and better), is this reasonable? Also intersted in location in the animals. Does higher in the timber, the better apply or more of the open country? I'd prefer open country and long shooting, one of our hunters is a custom rifle smith so we have some fun arms. Thank you in advance.

I don't have any knowledge of the regions you are looking at. I have spent some time in Regions G & H which are significantly different from the areas your looking at. I suspect you can find the kind of buck your talking about in most parts of Wyoming. As far as location I think you find the answer is both. If you are accustomed to hunting one type of terrain then you will likely find more success hunting the same type of terrain in Wyoming. Give yourself a few years to learn the area and the habits of the deer and you should find the type of deer your looking for more consistently.

Thanks for the advice. From talking with others it sounds like the best thing I can do is get back, way back.
