Fishing in Florida

I've just been booked to be in Sarasota, Florida for ten days starting June 1st.

Was wondering if anybody knew of some good places to get some fishing in.

Any suggestiong would be appreciated.

I've only fished in the Jacksonville/Mayport area and enjoyed it. Get online and do a little research and I'm sure something will turn up. Good luck!

Here are a few pictures of the work that I had to get out of the way before we could go and play.

Now we just need to get the final peices out and loaded on the trucks so that we can send it back to Utah.

Now that the work is out of the way we have some time to get some playing in. Went out on a charter boat called the Flying Fish II. The only trip that they had today was a six hour trip that went about ten miles out into the gulf of mexico.

Fellow coworker with a triggerfish.

This trip is mostly for smaller fish that they are pulling off of the reefs. There was one guy that hooked into a shark that was about three feet long but it go off right as it got to the boat and didn't wait around for us to take pictures.

All in all it was a fun trip but if I ever get the chance to come back I would like to find some red fish or some tarpon. something that will put a little more bend in the rod.

I promise, there are a LOT bigger fish out there. Biggest I caught on a charter boat was about a 6 foot nurse shark. Didn't bring it on board, though, just cut the line. I'm a bit surprised you guys didn't get anything bigger.

Yeah they said that on the eight, ten, and twelve hour trips they go out further and have a better chance at the larger groupers and other fish. They told us up front that this trip targets the smaller panfish in greater numbers. I myself probably caught around thirty fish while we were out there. Alot of the people that we were working with said to drive down the south end of the state for better fishing but we don't have the time or the money for a trip like that this time. Sadly we have to be back home to unload the machine when it shows up in the next couple of days.

What kind of machine is that anyways? Looks to me as some type of boiler, though I'm probably way off.

You're not to far off actualy. It is a normalizing furnace. They shuttle the parts into the round part of the furnace to heat them up to between 1200 to 1800 degrees for awhile then they move the parts to the square side of the furnace so that they can be dunked in quenching oil. This process helps relieve the stress that are in the parts so that as they go to the finishing lathes they won't spring or warp as they finish turning them.

For the last day in Florida we made a quick run up to Daytona for a quick look around.
