I hate to hear about the dead, un-retrieved archery bucks. Last year on the muzzle loader hunt, I came across a 24-25" 4x4 carcass with an arrow sticking out of the side. It looked like it was a good hit so it shouldn't have been too far from where it was shot.

Everyone hates to see this and swears they'll never let it happen to them.

But, if you hunt long enough, it will. Happened to me a few years back.

Long story short, we gave the animal (elk) a good hour or more to bed down and bleed out as we found good blood sign. Started tracking it in the snow, with blood drops every few feet...

until we found a set of boot tracks crossing over, and then over again, then again, and again...

until the boots were following right on top of the tracks. Blood the whole way. That's when we gave up.

Came to find out who it was, they got on the elk shortly after I shot it, chased it out of the country and never retrieved it.

Yep, I was extremely upset.

Sounds like Killer and Nonya have hit some whoppers with those lazer guided arrows that you can shoot from state to state lol
Seriously though it is too bad that this happened. I hope that the hunter is able to contact you and retreive his kill.

Philly, on anohter thread you mentioned Cedar Mtn. Maybe there are two Cedar Mtns, the one I am familiar with is no where near Panguitch; where is the one you mention? Good luck!

When l say Cedar Mtn. l consider it to be that area. l camped on Cedar Mtn but hunted the whole area. The buck l hit was in the Panguitch unit...

This type of thread is great, someone found a lost/un-recovered deer and are able to help the owner/shooter find it. MuleyMadness is awesome!

l couldnt agree more! :thumb
l was sick that l lost my buck... kinda put a damper on my entire hunt. If this works out to be my deer, this will be a wild story to tell with a great outcome!

Just for clarity, the same Cedar Mtn in the San Rafael Swell? What is considered to be the Panguitch unit? W/o giving up your honey hole, just curious. Cedar Mtn is over 200 miles away from the city of Panguitch, must be a different one. Good luck!

No l am referring to the Cedar Mountain outside of Cedar City, UT. the Cedar mountain l am referring to has Mammoth Creek, Duck Creek, Strawberry Creek, etc... it is the entire stretch of HWY 14 just before it intersects with the 89 that leads directly into Panguitch, Circleville etc... hopefully that clears it up :thumb

Great, so there are only three different Cedar Mtns in this great state. That should clear it up, oh and good luck finding him!
