Ft Carson CO Fire! No Turkey Hunting this weekend

We had a wild fire this week that has burned more than 9600 acres. Even with the snow we had last night it is only 40% contained. There are over 600 people fighting the fire. They are expecting full containment some time today. No homes were damaged since they managed to stop the fire from crossing Highway 115 off of Ft Carson. Had it managed to jump the highway quite a few homes would have been in real trouble.

We were lucky! Another wild fire made it into the town of Ordway out on the eastern plains of CO. Some folks lost their homes. A man had been burning trash on tuesday and thought the fire was out. The wind came up and fanned the fire. We were haveing winds gusting up to 45 mph and the fire took off from there. Not sure how many acres were burned in that fire.

Guess I will have to wait another week or to do some turkey hunting on base. The fire will take a toll on the elk and deer hunting on base this fall.

JLROOT, This brings back memories, not the fires, FT Carson. I lived there for 11 months. Way back in 1971. Did a lot of hiking and some hunting on the base.

The fire is still only about 80% contained. We are having some more wind and dry conditions.

May not get to hunt this spring [-o< ](*,)
