G-5 broadheads??

so this will be the second year of shooting them. i love there accuracy[sp??] and cut on impact design. but i'm a little worried about how sharp they are??? i was feeling some heads i know i never shot last year, they just sat in the qwivver, and really couldn't get them to cut the material of my carhart pants. them i bought a stone to touch them up and really couldn't get them much better. so i grabbed some brand new ones still in the package and it was the same??? shouldn't they be sharper than this? they were by no means razor sharp out of the package. what do you think?? everything else about them is awsome

Buckmaster
My son smoked this buck Saturday 8/23 with a G5 Striker and the funny thing about it was he made the comment these are the sharpest broad heads he has ever felt, and after saying that while screwing the tip in cut his finger a good one, so right after the shot he picks his arrow up and says lets check this head..... wow it shaved the hair on his arm with out a drag!!!

I don't thing you will have a minutes problem with this broadhead!! Good luck.

The G5 strykers have replaceable blades, almost identical to Wac'em broadheads. The Montecs are one solid unit.

Killerbee, I have had excellent luck with the striker! I know there the "faithful" out there for Wac'ems, but I switched to the striker from wac'ems and they have performed better.

IMO the striker is a better head.

It does have replacable blades where the montec you have to sharpen. I put 85gr montecs on my wifes set-up and they are shooting great!

I use the G5s on hogs. I have had problems getting them as sharp as i wanted. I went to there website and watched the video on how to sharpen them. I can now get them nice and sharp.

I use a diamond sharpening stone. Lay the head flat and 45 degrees to the length. I use five strokes on each of the 3 flats. I repeat this until they are a just to the point of shaving. That seems to be as close as i can get them on it. I then take a real fine stone and make a couple of very light strokes on each side. It takes alittle work, but i can get them to flick hairs.

Since there some kind of stainless Matl.they are harder to sharpen. I am thinking about buying te stone from Montec that the sell just for this purpose.

I switched from the Thunderhead to the G-5 Montec earlier this year, because I liked the idea of the cut on contact head. You're right, they didn't seem incredibly sharp out of the package. However, the last package I bought said "improved" on it, so I think the newer ones are a little sharper out of the package. I bought both the G-5 honing tool, and the diamond stone. I've only used the honing tool so far, since that's what they recommend to just put the finishing touch an a head that's in good shape. The diamond stone is meant for dinged up heads to get them back into condition, the website said. Anyway, I have shot 4 big game animals with them so far this year, and have had complete pass throughs on every one, up to elk sized animals. The only exception (on having a pass thru) was one in which I hit the spine and dropped him in his tracks. The other three animals went, 30 yards, 75 yards and 300 yards. I was very happy with their performance.
