General Deer Hunt in Unit 7 Arizona

Finally, a deer tag for 2014. I need some insight on hunting unit 7 in Arizona. This is my nephew's first hunt and I would like it to be memorable. Mule/White tail tag. Any suggestions for my scouting trips in late September. Hunt starts on 10/31.

if i were you i would hunt the transition areas between the junipers and pines in 7w around butcherknife hill or red mtn. they are in the northern part of 7w and would invest in a good map. Depending on weather if its dry stick to the tanks but most likley they will be feeding in the flats at night and moving up into the pines to bed down in the early morning. hope everything works out for you and good luck

P.S. that unit is full of deer all over so u can do this stratagy pretty much anywhere in the unit just my opinion

Thanks, I'll scout the entire area around Red Mountain and Ebert Mountain and work my way west.

Scouted the transition areas around Red and Ebert mountains and ran into several herds of antelope. Elk sign was plentiful and few deer signs. Didn't actually see any deer. Going out gain next week and the week after. Any advise on where to scout next??

I have always had good luck finding decent mulies on Sitgreaves Mtn. and up on Kendrick's Peak around Bull Basin.

My guess no luck on your hunt? It might end today? Let us know how you did what you have seen.

Well, the hunt was unsuccessful. We glassed the flats and saw a few does, elk, coyotes and even a bobcat but nothing with antlers. We took to the hills and low and behold, flushed out a 3x3 muley and soon as we flushed him, he took to the junipers/pine tree line and we never got a shot off. We tracked him and we jumped him again with the same results. He kept the junipers between himself and us. The second day, the wind was howling so we had to walk the hills and try to drive them out with no results. It started to rain/snow on the third day and we were pretty much shut down after that. All in all, this is what hunting is all about, getting out with friends and family and trying to out smart your opponent. Well, we were taken to the cleaners this time!!
