Gettin' Geeked Yet?

I know I'm not the only one that is geeked out by the looming deer and elk hunts that are upon us. Yeah, we have some time but right now is the time to fine tune those skills. Since I have been checking this archery blog quite often and am finding little to nothing new on here I figured I'd create my own thread. I'm upgrading all my accessories from the begginer stuff to better equipment so I figure I'd ask some advice on the subject. I shoot a Bowtech Tomkat which is plenty nice for me, here are the upgrades I want to make.

#1 - My string needs replacing and I am leaning toward Zebra Strings.
#2 - I've already posted this, but I have decided to give 100 grain Grim Reapers a try.
#3 - I'm finally kicking the Wisker Biscut to the curb and thinking of going with the Rip Cord. But I've heard good things about QAD's and Limb Drivers. I do like the idea of the capture style rest. Can't wait to finally get tighter groups.

Then last year I upgraded slightly to the TruGlow sights. Any opinions or advice on any of these products would be helpful as I will be buying all of them in the next week.

Thanks,

Brandon

I am with you - I have been excited for weeks and love the summer so I can train, try new equipment and shoot a bunch in preparation for the best time of year. I have some advice for you concerning strings. Having owned two (2) Mathews bows that came with Zebra strings, both of which I restrung with another brand of string, I would recommend trying something else. IMHO Zebra strings are OK, but there are much better strings out there. You may want to look at well known and well liked string makers such as Winner's Choice, Vapor Trail or other custom strings. I have used strings and cables from a very reasonable (price), custom string maker named Bucknasty on my last two bows and couldn't be more pleased - check him out - http://www.odproshops.com/bucknasty or do a search for him on ArcheryTalk.com. He has been around for years and has a good rep. Price wise - he is hard to beat. Good luck this season!

I am now, just drew Nevada..... =D>

Sorry, got all excited there and forgot...You can't beat BuckNasty strings have used Johns' strings for a while now, well worth it...Always change strings and cables and save 'em for a back-up. :thumb Now's the time to do it, well before the season to be dialed in before it opens.

Thanks BowTech and congrats on the Utah tag, that's sweet!!! =D>

bman9900 - Sweet I'll check those strings out, thanks for the link. Strings are one area that I haven't investigated too much.

Ike - Congrats, I've been experiencing a new level of geekyness because I drew out for Utah LE Elk. It's unreal, I eat, drink and sleep the stuff, it's really been a different experience!.

I'm with you man and you can ask my wife all I think about is hunting. I have owned a few Bowtech's and have found that their strings aren't very good. I don't know much about Zebra Strings but I will tell you to check out Winners Choice Strings. They are high quality and are pre-stretched. Colby at Humphries Archery put on a rip cord rest on my new Admiral. I have been shooting every Saturday for the last month and the rest is very nice. I only have to minor complaints with it. 1)It is plastic and not metal. 2) If you draw your bow back when you have your rest locked in the upright containment position the arrow makes noise when drawing. I am going to put a piece of electrical tape on it to change that and also it won't affect the flight of the arrow. Limb drivers are really nice and doesn't mess with the timing of the cams which some people argue does or doesn't make a difference. The only drawback that I see is the long string that could get hung up in the bushes, etc. Thats just my opinion though.
