Glock 9mm or .40

I am just wondering if any of you guys have either a glock .40 cal or a Glock 9mm. If you have one of these, I would like to know what you think of them? What do you think of the Glock?

I know I'm not the one you are looking to for an answer as I don't own a Glock, but figured I'd throw opinion out anyways! :))

I've never been a fan of Glocks as they just don't seem to fit my hand. As for the caliber, I would think it has a lot to do with what purpose you want it for. For target/competion/plinking, I would go for the 9mm hands down. If for personal protection/CCW I'd go for the .40 cal.

My uncle recently retired from the detroit police force and traded an elk rack for his off duty 9mm I love it! although it isnt as fun to shoot as the 357 revolver. They are fun guns to shoot tho

They work and are extremely durable. You must learn to shoot them with a locked down wrist, which is hard for some people to do. I like the 357 magnum in a revolver better for a fighting/hunting gun. You can actually do a good job of hitting targets out to 200 meters with 160 to 180 grain bullets. The other two calibers and the pistol are a short range proposition. The 9 is easy to shoot and the 40 is a good stopper. I was talking with a friend yesterday about things in general and he always likes to stay lean and simple when it comes to his gear. He says all you really can own is what you can put on your back and run with. Choose and buy the best. And be ready to take that with you.

If you enjoy the Glock’s go with the full size 40, the 9mm just does not have the stopping power, I know they say it is all shot placement, but some one hipped out does not act normal, you have to spin them or take them off there feet.
Enjoy and shoot often

I'm not a huge fan of the Glocks, They sit well in my hands either. After shooting several different makes and models my choice was a Walther P99. They come with three different back straps so you can choose the one that fits your hand the best. Easy to change. I also went with a 40 cal loade with hollow points, Pure stopping power. 10 in the mag and 1 in the tube. Besides the glock bit me once. Hurt like he&&

If you want stopping power go with what all the rest are compared to, the 45 ACP. It's also very easy on the pistol because it operates at much lower pressure.

Abert - That's exactly what ive been looking at to get myself for christmas, how do you like it? Rhoughly how much did you pay for yours (Is it cheaper to buy the deal that Springfield armory has on their site or to find a local gun shop)? It's between that or the M1A SOCOM II carbine (maybe in an urban tiger stripe camo pattern, I dunno. Either way their sweet looking!), that one would be fun too, but pricy. I can't decide :-k

Hound hunter there's a guy up here in davis county that has an awesome price on his pistols. He runs his business out of his basement but he is completely legit and requires a background check/concealed carry permit to purchase. Let me know if you want his info.

As far as what pistol I prefer, here it is. I held a few glocks but liked the feel of the Springfield XD better. Mine is sub-compact 3" barrel in .40 S&W. I love it.

This was my coming home present from Iraq to myself. I have always wanted one ever since the first time I shot one in the Navy. Really hated when the military went to the Beretta M-9. This one is the Mil-Spec model, which is just a step above the GI model.

I paid around $600 for it brand spankin' new. Came with a couple of clips, a kind of cheesy "holster" and another holster for the clips. I bought it at a local gun show and I am not familiar with what SA is currently running on their site.

One of the reasons I went with SA is their fantastic warranty, which I will be testing very soon. Don't get me wrong, this .45 works perfectly. I've managed to put some lead down range with zero problems...other than the sights. I am hitting about 3" low at 7 yards which doesn't sit too well with me. I could just get a set of adjustable sights, which I may do in the future, but 3" low with the factory sights just ain't right. Before I spend the money on some new sights I really want to see how SA will handle this situation.

As far as Glocks go I don't like the way they fit my hand either. They are tough and durable but not as comfortable and accurate as many other hand guns. As far as caliber I would go with the .40 or .45. SA does have great warrantys but if you are looking at somthing with a warranty you may want to look into the taurus specifically the new millenium model. They have a great warranty and a great feel.
Personally I shoot and carry a Kimber Covert Pro II. It is by far my favorite pistol to carry. It has a bigger price tag but you get what you pay for. I also have the tarus millenium pro. It is great for carry and awesome to shoot. It isn't as accurate as my kimber but still a heck of a gun. Here are some photos of each. Good luck on your decision. :thumb

Okay next question.

Obviously a 9mm would work as a conceal carry pistol for protection if I was to pack it for that. But what about a bear in the mountains. Will it be big enough to do what it needs to if you were ever in that situation. Obviously it will be big enought for cougars.

Personally my .40 is very concealable and I carry it everywhere I go. As for fighting off a bear? I think you can use all the help you can get. A 9mm would be better than a dead stick, but i'd rather have the security and peace of mind of a larger caliber. The only reason I didnt go with a .45 is because Springfield didnt make the XD .45 in a sub-compact (3" barrel).

As far as warding off a bear a heavier caliber like the .40 or .45 would definatley be your best bet because of the energy they carry. Personally though I carry my Kimber .45 concealed but when I am in the field and bears are a concern I carry my 357. A heavy revolver like the 357, 45 long colt, or 44 mag are definatley better than any of the autos. Again though if you want one for all around use your best bet is to go with the .40 or .45. I hope this helps you out some.
