Gonna need help on this hunt..

We are in need information in unit 37 in Idaho for General Spike Elk starting November 1-7. Usually we draw one tag for cows, but this year came up empty handed. We are familiar with the area and have hunted it for cows and deer, but never spikes. The last spike we saw was 5 years ago. We have also never hunted this late in the year in this unit. We scouted it out this summer and early fall and never saw a spike elk. If anyone has any information to help guide us in the right direction, it would help alot. There is only two of us hunting. We tent camp and walk to where we need to go. We would really like to put some elk in the freezer this year. Thanks in advance.

Hhmmm....wish I had some concrete advice for ya. I have never hunted that unit before.

However, if the elk in that unit are like the elk in my units up here, and I imagine that they cannot act too different, then you should be finding the spikes in the same spots that you are finding the rest of the elk.

The spikes here tend to hang out with the cows more than anything. After all, they are just youngsters. They don't have thier own "special" hiding spots or act any different at that age. It's strange that you see plenty of cows in that unit but have not seen a spike in 5 years.

Anyone else have anything? I personally have never heard of this problem before. Like I stated earlier, where there are elk there are generally SOME spikes.
