Got a new bow.

Today I shot a bow for the first time and ended up walking out with the Mathews Drenalin. Now I know that I should have gone out and shot multiple bows and really tried them all out before I decided on one but I've done a lot of internet research and was kinda set on the Drenalin already. When I got to the bow shop thats all they could talk about. Well I expected some arm shock and arm fatigue from pulling back and holding and I thought it would be hard to hold the bow on target (only 20 yards) and get a decent group but it was a dream to shoot, quiet and there was no jarring effect. I didn't know that shooting a bow was so fun and I think I've got a new addiction. I'd be glad to hear any suggestions or pointers that you may have for a beginner archer. fatrooster.

Glad you found a bow that you like and feels good to you. There a lot of tips out there that people will give you, alot them come down to "personal preferences". You have jumped the biggest hurdle in my opinion or one of them any way-buying the bow that feels best to "you" in your hand and when you shoot it. As far as accesories-that can be a personal preference thing as well coming down to how much you are willing to pay for them; factors that may be considered--pin size, weight, how well they fit your particular bow, durability, adjustments, ease of use, etc...

I think one of the biggest tips I could give you now just getting started is to just shoot, shoot, shoot---practice, practice, practice!

As you shoot you will start to get a feel for things that work best for you and find your anchor and style.

Good luck and happy hunting!!

Thanks guys for all of the well wishes.
Ox, I've read great things about the Bowtect. I went with the True Glow site and the whisker bisquit rest. I really like the Whisker bisquit. fatrooster.

first thing to do is remove that biscuit and get ya a trophy taker or another good rest and then practice, practice, practice. I don't think you mentioned if you were going to hunt this year but if ya are then I wouldn't waste any time. It takes time to build those muscles that you are not used to using, and when you've got them strong, aiming becomes alot better IMHO.

yes that bowtech tribute, the mathews drenalin and switchback xt were my last 3 choices they are all sweet bows but there are a ton more out there that are great bows as well, it's all about what fits you and personall preference

Rooster, for all intents and puposes, especially for somebody just getting started, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using that wisker biscut. As I mentioned before, there re alot of things out there and you need to see what works best for you.

Good Luck!!

Straightshooter, thanks for the advice and once I get better and get a feel for what I'm doing I just might upgrade to some other equipment. I will keep in mind your suggestions. For now I'm gonna stick with the biscut and just have fun. fatrooster.

It's my understanding that they have completely changed the whisker biscuit from a few years ago. The old ones just shredded your fletchings, but I understand they have made some improvements in that regard.

Stickflicker, I shot abot 30 arrows the other day and didn't shred any fletchings so what you say must be true. fatrooster.

i must say too, i used to really not like the WB but from what i've read on other forums as well, they are probably the most popular rest there is , so to me thats saying they really must not be that bad huh?? and i've also heard the same thing they have done alot to imp[rove them so i think you have a pretty good rest.

Good luck with your new set-up, and post a photo of it on the "let's see your setup" thread once you get it all put together and shooting.

i shoot a biscuit and wouldnt want any other one. i like it cause it doesnt fall off the rest and doesnt move you can keep your arrown nocked with out fear of it falling off or making noise while stalking. that arrow is locked and ready to go at all times. my flethcings were never hurt bad enough to make a difference after dozens of shots with the same arrow.
i say keep the biscuit!
i like those tru glo sights they are way better than the spott hoggs they are so much brighter and cost a fraction good choice on that too thats what im throwing on my bow too.

you should check out the spot hog WITH THE NEW HOG WRAPS they are bright!!! but quality alone, the tru glo's are not close at all, kinda like the swarovski/nikon comparison, in my opinion.
