hard lesson to learn
HUNTIN FOR LIFE
9/6/07 7:28am
through out this summer i had found a very nice buck so i kept an eye on him as much as i could. by the opening day of the archery hunt i and some hunting buddys decided that he was going to gross score a solid 180 possibly 190. So on the opening day we went out and we thought that we had this buck patterned very well, while scouting i had been as close as 25 yards from this deer and he never knew i was there. but on the opening day that buck was no were to be seen. i finally found him on the first monday of the hunt but was unable to get a clear shot at the deer. after that day that deer went missing for 2 weeks. i had set up trail cams all over the places that i had seen him in the preseason to locate that buck but was unable to find any sign of him or the 2 bucks that ran with him. so i decided since i was dedicated and my brother that only had a archery tag and was his first year ever hunting archery at 16 years old i was going to try to get him any nice buck that was bigger then a good 2 point. well on labor day i took my brother out and we got on to a nice 2x3 in the one of the areas that i had seen the big buck at in the early months of scouting. unlike all the other times, i had taken my bow with me as well as the video cam. but this time i had decided not to take my bow cause it was kinda in a flat area and i thought that i could see all the deer in the flat. so we started to work over to were we thought the deer was going to feed over to. as we were watching the 2x3 i seen something movin in the brush about 60 yards in front of us. as i was watching all of the sudden the big buck stood up and started feeding accross the flat on an angle away from us. i didnt now what to do at that time, do i risk going back to the truck that is 800 yards away and the buck disappearing or do i get in to range and let my brother take a shoot at one of the biggest deer i have ever seen in my life and spoil the rest of his hunting life by killing such a big buck for his first archery buck ever.
Well i didnt want that deer to disapper so i got in to range were i could get my bro a shoot at the buck at 60 yards even thought he had only sighted in up to 40. 60 yards was the closes that i could get to the buck. as the buck feed down the ridge he drew back right before the place he could shoot through. the buck stepped into the clearing and he let it fly. at that point i think time stopped as i watched that arrow fly towards the buck he lifted his head up. well it turns out that my bro flinched when releasing the arrow and it went just under his neck. and after that i havent seen the buck since then.
so here is the lesson of the day never leave your bow at the truck. cause you never know what you will run into.

I'm sure we've all done similar things at one time or another. Sounds like it was fun none-the-less.
I'm willing to bet you were just as excited for your bro getting a chance at a great buck as you would have been. That is what hunting is all about. Sharing the outdoors with friends and family. Keep up the good work, your time is coming. Got any photos of the bad boy?
I missed a big one also if it makes you feel any better. :)
thats allright is was fun. now i can give my bro a hard time for missing that big buck.
delkmon, i have a video of him i will try to post pics and the video of it soon.
GREAT looking buck! :thumb
Are you a dedicated hunter? Maybe you can find him on the Muzzle loader hunter?
